Only a Dual G5 or Core Duo can record the highest quality of MPEG-2. You have three quality options for analog inputs: VideoCD, Standard and High.

EYETV WEB STREAMING SOFTWARE

The EyeTV software encodes this YUV into MPEG-2 or MPEG-1, and the speed and quality of that encoding is entirely dependent on the power of your Mac.

EYETV WEB STREAMING TV

It records analog inputs via software encoding, and receives pre-encoded digital content.ĮyeTV Hybrid features an analog NTSC or PAL TV tuner that lets you watch live TV directly on the Mac, in the uncompressed YUV format. From the FAQ.:ĮyeTV Hybrid does not have a MPEG encoder. HDTV does not need an encoder, that is for analog signals only.Īt least with the EyeTV Hybrid you can receive analog TV, can't do that with the Miglia.Īlso, your mini cannot encode analog at the highest quality. the EyeTV Hybrid is $134 at Amazon.Īny reason other than the QAM to go with the Miglia? which I'm guessing it doesn't, given the HD signal would be delivered uncompressed. Quote Jem The one thing I couldn't tell is whether the Miglia has a hardware encoder. "A container of ashes might one day be thrown from the sky, which could burn the land and boil the oceans."Įdited 3 time(s). "Near the day of Purification, there will be cobwebs spun back and forth in the sky." "If we dig precious things from the land, we will invite disaster." "Good heavens, Miss Sakamoto! You're beautiful!" The Macmini is not the best machine for this duty, not because of the CPU, it is the lack of HD space, you gotta hook up a big external to record much HD content. Last edit at 10:07AM by Jem.Īlmost all your questions have an answer of, "It depends".Īnalog is not compressed for recording, it is converted from Analog to Digital, HD signals are already digital.Īll content that EyeTV records can be edited and exported to almost any format, BUT depending on the "Lifting Capacity" of your Mac, some conversions can literally take days.ĮlGato has FAQ's on their site that will answer all your questions. for just a bit more $$$, I would give that additional thought.Įdited 1 time(s). I'm very close to going with the EyeTV Hybrid for cost and convenience (absolute video quality is NOT the be all end all for me), but if a hardware encoder offers significant benefits elsewhere. For instance, are there alternate ways to store HD content that just aren't feasible (or possible) with a software compression solution such as the EyeTV Hybrid. What is the *closest* similar product to the EyeTV Hydrid that hadnles BOTH analog and HD Digital signals, AND uses hardware encoding in place of Software encoding? Are there advantages (beyond quality and lower CPU requirements) of the files generated by hardware encoders.

EYETV WEB STREAMING MAC

Is there any difference in the mac Mini's ability to playback stored EyeTV HD content from the hard disk, versus live streaming? I would think not, but it's a question.ĥ.

Can a Mac Mini Intel 1.66 encode/record analog broadcasts at the highest setting, or must it operate at a lower setting?Ĥ. Analog broadcasts, OTOH, do need to be compressed before being stored to the hard disk. Thus, little addtional CPU power is needed beyond recording the large data stream. it just records the data stream to the hard disk. If I understand correctly the main reason an Intel mac Mini 1.66 Ghz can *record* HD content is because it does not recompress it. For ANALOG broadcast recordings, I gather they can be edited and exported to different file formats, but would like to know the file sizes (again - per hour of content), based on common quality settings.ģ. What format does the EyeTV Hybrid *record* HD content in, what are the file sizes (per hour of recorded content) and can these HD files be edited and otherwise exported to other file formats.Ģ. I hope this won't cause a conflagration :}ġ. I KNOW this is a touchy subject for some on this forum, having just done a search and read through many post on this in similar Mac PVR threads. I have a couple concerns regarding it's suitability for recording and playback.
